Christoph presents perovskite photovoltaics on SAT.1 Bayern
In a recent report by SAT.1 Bayern, Prof. Dr. Christoph J. Brabec presented current research on perovskite solar cells and their potential as an emerging photovoltaic technology. In addition to leading our Chair, Prof. Brabec is also Director of the Institute of Energy Materials and Devices – Photovoltaics (IMD-3) at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
Perovskite solar cells are lightweight, efficient and highly versatile. Compared with conventional silicon modules, they can be produced on much thinner and lighter substrates, opening up new application possibilities such as building façades, flexible foils and potentially even satellites.
The report also provided an insight into the automated fabrication of laboratory-scale perovskite solar cells. At IMD-3, pipetting robots are used for spin coating, while automated blade-coating systems apply the perovskite layers in a controlled and reproducible manner.
Further scale-up is possible at the Solar Factory of the Future, where photovoltaic layers and solar cells can be deposited and printed on flexible foils. These automated facilities support the development and transfer of emerging photovoltaic materials from laboratory-scale research towards industrially relevant manufacturing processes.
Through the SAT.1 Bayern feature, Prof. Brabec highlighted both the scientific potential of perovskite photovoltaics and the advanced research infrastructure available for developing the next generation of solar technologies.
